I think the Sti V5 is TY 754 VB AAA

The V5/V6 trans are stronger than the previous models.
Just put a Type R 745 in my Sti v3 to have a stronger box.
Remember to get the rear diff though as it's a 4:444 and they are hard to find.

I hope for a 380 390 lbft rating on the V5 box.

Just fitted the same box to MY99 uk classic, it's fine for the power level I'm running........well it should be the power is more or less standard at the mo!

Very soon will be closer to the 340/320 mark hopefully.

I think the ratios are far better than the standard uk box.

Graham: good to know that it can handle 380

Mine is in my hillclimber now, a Type R box.
I will be racing on full sticky slicks in 2007 so there will be a huge increase in grip...so a hike in traction and strain on the transmission. Hope it all works or its £3K for a ppg from Zen.

I found diffs were more of a problem than gearboxes on slicks Graham- my 2.5 eats them regularly.

currently using compromise road / track type tyres. Not really too pleased about it tbh, and grip is rubbish compared with slicks

Glad i found out that now as i'm going down the same route as you. Do we have any options with the diffs? Presume its the cwp thats breaking and not the actual lsd?

The real hillclimb slicks from Avon are so so soft it's untrue.
I really hope my V6 box will tolerate it especially with the plated front and rear diffs now...
Still, if it goes pop there is always a ppg mod and all will be well.
Last 3 years I have raced on the fab Kumho V70 softs, just so so good and road legal too, (1B tyre).
I want to try the real deal even if it ***** the box.

I would doubt the rear diff will break with my 370 lbft torque.
I will find out this mid March.

Graham.
