Clutch judder - is it normal??
My UK classic my2000 sometimes has clutch judder. It may go for days 100% but then judders a couple of times in one day. A few people have mentioned this already but is it really that common and is it worth the aggro of replacing the clutch. The car has done 90k but I'm assuming it has had a replacment clutch already before I bought it 6 months ago. What does eveyone recon, replace the clutch or wait till it starts slipping????

It's a really common symptom. Especially when cold - How much play do you have on the pedal ? Unless your bite point it particularly high, I wouldn't worry at all. When the engine is warmed up - try a couple of 4,000 rpm + start - that clean up the surfaces a little - it may help.
Only worry if it starts juddering all the time.

It is simply part of the Impreza character.
Don't you just love 'em!
Mind you:
My UK turbo 1999 car did it cold, never hot.
My Sti v3 my97 has NEVER done it cold or hot.
The Sti clutch is 'heavy duty' compared to the UK unit I think.

build up of material on the flywheel? a fast start can clean it off! plus if youve had a new clutch fitted to a old flywheel, it'l defo judder. when they wear the surface becomes uneven. it should be skimmed or replaced, could make your new clutch wear faster!!

My MY98 had clutch judder with the stock clutch. I replaced it with an STI flywheel/clutch/pressureplate - problem gone. The stock pressure plate is too weak, causing uneven surface wear on the flywheel. This was visually confirmed when I replaced the clutch.

MY00 does it cold. Its gone after 5 minutes. First time it happened I was worried, but after being on here I realise its a really common thing.
Glad I dont have an Audi that does the dog though !

Cheers guys, I'll leave it then, it does seem to be only from cold. I'll find a quiet junction to pull out of @5000rpm when its raining and try some rear-wheel steering ooops, getting carried away again, thought I was back in me old 73' Escort! Thanks again for the replies.
