Default API 6-speed gbx conversion

So... just got back from picking up my RA from API after having a 6 speed DCCD box conversion.

It has transformed the car, the extra cog now makes motorway journeys a pleasure and has allowed me to keep (near enough) the frantic, short ratios of the original RA box. The DCCD (mine previously didn't have it) has effectively turned the car into a big, grunty RWD Escort and provides a huge grin factor

Once again David and his lads provided excellent service (they did a few other things too that I asked for while they had the car) and I can't recommend them highly enough - thanks guys

It's not a cheap conversion but I'd thoroughly recommend it to anyone with an R/RA as it makes the car a lot more bearable for longer journeys whilst retaining the frantic acceleration through the gears down the lanes.

Yes indeedy - an event-free (and low rev'ing) journey down the A34 and then a fun blast across the backroads from Winchester to home. Touch wood there's no sign of any further driveshaft probs.

Shame I forgot the old shaft, would have made a suitable addition to the similarly snapped halfshaft from the Escort

Cheers
Ken

Did you have the dccd wired for adjustment or is it set 'free'?

Was the car an Sti RA or non dccd RA?

David: my Type R box will soon be with you.

Graham, you say the nicest things!!

The car is an STi 2 RA that Kenny bought from APi a year or so back [ In fact l still have his trade in Catalunya to sell !! ]

It is unusual in that it has all the attributes of an RA, but without the Dccd. Even the gearbox number is correct for the car; TY752 VB3CA if I remember correctly, which can be had with or without Dccd. Caused a few questions at the time, but a number of knowledgeable S'Netters came to my rescue and confirmed that what l had told Ken was in fact correct.

We had a complete 5 speed Dccd electronics set up and have fitted it with the Dccd 6 speeder for him in the last week. It lacks the ' auto ' function software from the JDM 6 speed car, but the thumbwheel and Xmas tree lights are in and functioning properly. Ken had cause to test the lock up function and managed to drive the car some ten miles back to us with a broken rear drive shaft - proving beyond doubt that it works. His shaft, not ours I hasten to add.

Ken will also tell you himself, but this is one of the very best conversions and the car is transformed. He tried it out on the ' private APi Test track ' and his smile could be seen before he got back in the office.

Graham: I specifically requested the full dccd control (less the auto bit) to be fitted as I wanted the ability to adjust it to suit conditions - the fully open setting suits my driving style when I'm in full "play" mode and allows me to slide the tail on demand .

David: If you thought I had a big grin when I got back to the office you should have seen it during road test... Melissa will vouch that Thanks again I'm very very chuffed with it - worth every penny

Kenny, can you give us some figures?

Revs V's speed in 6th gear, at 70, 80, 90mph etc. That kind of thing.

Cheers.

The electric centre diff control box is £2300 + VAT to fit it is £240.00 + VAT. You will need a 3.9:1 R180 rear diff of 3.9:1 ratio to match the 6 speeder. We have them here at £450.00 + VAT and another £200.00 + VAT to fit Both the box and diff will have Suretrak LSD's.

That covers it all: the dccd works; the speedo works; the clutch works;

We do it as a ' package ' at £3000 = VAT [ £3525.00 ] no further cost.

OR you can buy the ' package ' at £2600.00 + VAT and fit yourself. It is heavy work, especially the box, but ultimately easy to do.

Pretty much the same as Darkdestroyers quote. Except that you cannot realistically fit the dccd and get it working without resorting to the Neetronics set up which I know nothing about. Someone on here will tell you about that.

Or go for the non dccd 6 speed version at a cost of £1700.00 + VAT which puts the package at £2400.00 + VAT fitted or £2000.00 + VAT self fit.
