Default Whine after accelerating

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered before but I couldn't find a definitive answer after a search.

I've had a Gravel EX for about a couple of months and have discovered that after a bit of "spirited driving" or a single hard launch, there is a quite intrusive whine from the front of the car (engine, gearbox area). This happens in all gears rises and drops with engine revs. If I take it easy for a bit afterwards, the whine drops to such a level as to be almost inaudible. I've replaced the gearbox oil just in case but it still occurs even after a single quick start.

I wouldn't have thought that a single quick start would introduce a lot of heat to any part of the drivetrain so I can't assume it's heat related. On the other hand, what do I know?

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Mark

possibly the clutch release bearing.. the clutch will heat it making the noise more noticable after a launch..

You might be able to get some grease on it from a spray can through the inspection hole. . if done carefully with a tube.

Cheers Simon,

Should the realese bearing keep making a noise even when the clutch is engaged or is it always spinning as long as the engine is?

Thanks

Always spinning..

it could be the spigot bearing too in the middle of the flywheel or a bearing in the gearbox. . without listenning it is difficult to tell.. just the release bearing you can grease just about to see if the noise changes to see if it is that or not.

I have exactly the same problem on a my99 uk turbo....it'd driving me mad as its engine speed dependent not road speed, however mine seems to be coming from the front of the engine bay.

Default Reviving this thread...

I wondered if anybody who posted in this thread could be kind enough to let me know what caused said noise.

My car is doing exactly the same thing and it is driving me absolutely mad.

I left the missus somewhere off J8 of the M6 but it has not resolved the problem

Any ideas?

Just thought I would follow this up with the solution to my problem.

It was low power fluid steering. Scary noise for such a simple fix!
