Default Gravel like feel to clutch pedal??

During normal motoring the clutch feels and performs quite normally, however, even after a few minutes of spirited/ hard driving the clutch pedal has a gravel like feel to it and a noise to match, the car is an Sti 5 type R, the transmission fluid is at the correct level and the dccd is set correctly.
Any suggestions anyone??
Thanks in advance.
Nick.

Is the clutch quite old, it may be slipping when it gets hot - after a spirited drive for example!

Also check clutch fluid, may need bleeding or fluid is old and neds changing?

As far as the age of the clutch is concerned i'm not sure without contacting the previous owner but it probably is quite old, however there is no evidence that it is actually slipping when making the noise. Will check the fluid level and probably change it anyway just to eliminate that possibility, i'm sure i've read a thread about a better (up-grade) type of fluid to use other than the manufacturers recommended type, will have to see if I can Find it again.
Thanks for the help and will post any progress with the prob asap.
Best regards,
Nick.
