how and what to modify 6 speed uk box
i was wondering what can be done to modify the 6 speed box , the car will be used as a daily driver and be running roughly 500 bhp and 480lbs torque ,
i know most people go for the uprated five speed , but i do like the 6 speed box .
can the gears be made longer ?
can they be strengthened ?
cheers neil

Leave it alone its fine at 500bhp, albeit the syncro's wear, but they can be fixed easily enough...
If you really think you want an uprated 6spd you could shot peen & polish the gears and shafts, or you could buy a modena or ppg uprated gear kit for it and spend around £6 - 8k in the process.

think i,ll leave the gear kit
i,ll send you a pic tomorrow of the ver 7 manifold to see if its reversible
who can check the synchro,s and bearing,s before its fitted in as i dont know any gearbox repair places ( not that i trust with this box anyway)

There's Geartech, based in Swindon I think, they'll pick up too.

Hi David,
RE the synchro's...I've got STi8 6 speed in mine with approx 7500 miles from new and she crunches going into 5th - how much is it to repair/replace the syncro to fix this and is it a perm fix?
