Default P1 Rear diff

Is the standard P1 rear diff a limited slip unit? if so how do you test to see if the diff is a limited slip or an open diff.

Thank you

it was limited slip no need to test! the front diff was the open type. final drive ratio was 4.444

to test for LSD...

put car on a lift
rotate wheels by hand
if they rotate in opposite directions then it has LSD.

Im not 100% sure on this method.

Yeah I thought this, but wasn't sure about it. Every car I've had recently has done this, but surely not every car I drive has an LSD? Or maybe it does?

You should feel resistance when you turn if its an LSD. Open diffs rotate in opposite directions LSD go the same way but im unsure if this method works on 4WD but does on 2

So if the wheels go in opposite directions that just shows it's got a diff? Just not a limited slip diff.

Brilliant, could someone please explain what a Viscous LTD Slip diff is. What kind of diff is this.

This is my old diff, would allow both wheels to spin and be very tail happy in the rain. However my new diff wont allow both wheels to spin.... why could this be?

Any advice appreciated

Cheers Merlin, made sence. So a viscous ltd slip diff, with both wheels off the ground, spinning one wheel should in turn rotate the other in the same direction?

Thanks
