Need to top up my gearbox oil
I need to top up my gearbox oil. my question is, as i do not know what type / brand of oil is in there at the moment, can i just top it up with oil that can be had at my local halfords?
i'm not sure why the level has dropped. there's no leaks from the box
cheers,
matt.

I would be inclined to change the whole lot for castrol syntrax gear oil (75w90). The drain plug is easy to locate (its a big-un) and the washer is metal and I reused mine with no leaks at all.
It takes 3.5l......

Use a tube pushed over the dipstick hole and attach a funnel to the top of that, or you'll have gear oil everywhere.
(there's no box breather, so it tries to spit it back out as fast as you can fill it otherwise)
