Can a n/a US 2.5 block be used as a turbo engine?

Default Can a n/a US 2.5 block be used as a turbo engine?

does anyone know if you Can use a 2.5 N/A US engine to make a 2.5 turbo engine?

you see ive been offered this engine cheap, any ideas?

i know that pistons, rings, rods, crank etc etc need changing, but this engine is next to free

Yup very possible, but won't be as strong as you'd like.

You might always be left feeling like you should have bought the STi block.

also its an open block, are the newer blocks closed deck?

Semi closed deck, with pistons and rods that are stronger than the N/A IIRC.

It's not impossible to use though. Plenty have used open deck 2 litres with plenty power...Harvey being one of them AFAIK, but unless you get it all really cheap(strong rods and pistons), i'd think about it a bit longer and wait for some more advise.

yeah this is what i was thinking, i have no idea at the mo on the price of forged pistons new crank etc etc,

right back to the drawing board

how much cost would you say is involved with the 2.5 newer sti block

2.5k????

How do you want the cost broken down though?

Basic block on it's own is circa 1.5k. This will handle 400/400.

well i would be expecting to replace

block inc gaskets £1450
oil pump £150
water pump £??
Clutch 200-300

already have apexi management,

have i missed much?

Full engine gasket set and obviously a gearbox to take it.

Labour costs added onto that too, if you don't do it yourself.

is it much of a job to do it yourself, ive read a few write ups and sounds pretty easy, im pretty mechanically minded so is it a job i could do myself?

Yer i'd say so, just take your time. I say that to everyone, as it really does make things easier if you sit and make sure you've done everything before moving onto the next bit.

Just remember the 3-bond sealer.
