Default Drivetrain Rattle

MY00 wagon with 110000 miles. A couple of months ago I started to get a knocking noise when accelerating round right hand bends (roundabout sort of bends). Its got gradually worse over the last 2 weeks on holiday in France (bit scary) and it now clatters like mad on even the slightest right hand bend, although scarcely makes a sound on left hand bends. Its sort of like Mini driveshaft joints sounded only much crunchier and it doesn't seem to be worse on full lock. Not really sure whether it is coming from the wheel or the inner end of the drive. Anyone any ideas? I can't hear or feel anything turning the wheel by hand and I don't want to start changing things randomly. Any help appreciated.

Graham

normally it would be driveshaft try somewhere out of the way take your window down or passengers drive in circles slowly if it clatters more as you speed up its gotta be something that is turning , try feeling for excessive play in shaft joints , check cv boots are ok if one is spilt and has dried out , that will be a obvious sign , check ball joints, track ends , wheel bearing play .

Oh it definitely something which is turning. There are no obvious signs - boots are both good and I can't feel any play on bearings, in fact I specifically asked the garage to check bearings, ball joints etc when it was MOT'd a couple of weeks ago. What I don't understand is why it seems to be more related to speed than steering angle, ie it is worse at higher sppeds with small steering input than slowly with more lock.
