Default Subaru All Wheel Drive question

STi7 with (LSD rear and open front diff)

On Saturday I was backing up an angled steep driveway that levelled off at the top (car ramp shape) when the rear right wheel lifted off the ground when it reached the footpath. At this point the car lost all drive.

The wheel that was in the air was spinning but I was not getting any drive at all through the other 3 wheels?

Is this normal behaviour ?

Wierd, both centre and rear diffs would have to be free to allow this to happen. Certainly not normal.

STi's should have 3 LSDs fitted, WRX's 2?

No centre LSD would defeat the aim of 4x4.

It was weird and a mate of mine videoed it happening. It truly was a one wheel drive car.

Dadoc, IIRC it should have a suretrak LSD on the rear but I think the front on the 2002 Sti was open?

I thought the WRXs didnt have front LSD's and the STis did.

Maybe I'm wrong.

wrx has open diffs apart from the centre viscous coupling i think you are right about 2002 sti's having a rear lsd and open front diff i believe a front lsd was an optional extra how would you confirm this??

Think it was only special ones that had front diff, ie spec c...

if it was steep then that would happen, as it's limited slip it will allow. They are not particularly harsh at torque splitting so it's quite possible it allows enough slip to not supply enough drive to the other wheels in that situation.

It's not designed as an off roader with hugely differing surfaces, it only requires a small amount to make a difference on the road.
