clutch fluid
Hello again.
How do you go about bleeding and refilling the clutch fluid. Also how much does the system hold and what fluid should I use.
Thanks for any help.

From memory and doing it 2 years ago:
1
Remove the Top mount intercooler idealy, or grovel under the car/gearbox and locate the bleed nipple on the clutch slave cylinder mounted on top of the bell housing just by the fore/aft stabiliser bar. This task is much easier with the TMIC off.
2
Connect a bleed tube to the nipple, put free end in a glass jar held below the cylinder.
3
Remove the yellow cap off the clutch fluid reservoir just by the turbo.
Crack open the nipple. Get a friend/girlfriend/wife to sit in the car to repeatedly press the clutch pedal down, and up, and down, and ...etc. but not too vigourously!
4
As the fluid is drained from the Reservoir, drain until ablout 5 mm from the bottom, NOT till empty.
Fill the reservoir with Dot 5.1 brake fluid or equivelent. Pump that down to about 5mm of the bottom.
Whilst doing this your job is to watch to see if any air bubbles appear/dissapear.
5
That should do it. top up with 5.1 again.
6
If there is still air in there you need to unbolt the cylinder off the box, and depress the piston fully into its bore using a small 'G' clamp or similar.
Replace the bleed pipe etc and bleed off the fluid as above.
7
Remove the clamp and re-assemble to the box/clutch arm.
Gently press the pedal a few times watching the fluid level in the reservoir. Top up untill full.
8
That should do it!
There are no Haynes maanuals for the Impreza, but this is basic car mechanics.
Good luck, Graham
