Default funny gearbox

Hi there. Right what happened was.... Id been driving hard for about 30 miles when, as I came out of a fast round-about I couldn't get any gear at all. I pulled over, turned the engine off and it slipped into 1st gear easy. I then drove another 5 miles using all the gears with no problem but just as I pulled up outside my house it did it again. 5 minutes later when I used 1st and 2nd to drive up the driveway it was fine again. Any ideas whats wrong. Ive heard something about a pin shaking lose?
A big thanks to anyone who can help.
Cheers, Luke.

Sounds like the cluch to me.

Hard drive = heat, and it could be warping slightly so with the engine running the input shaft will always be driven, so no gears. Cool down and all is back to normal.
Engine off = input still so all gears fine.

The pin loose thing could be the fulcrum pin of the clutch fork, but this would really cause judder not faiure ( in the first instance)

Suggest:
1
Bleed the clutch and replace with Dot 5 fluid (from Halfords)
Check if all is well or prob still there, but while you are there:
(Check the gearbox oil level while box is cold. Fill slightly above maximum.)
2
Check fulcrum pin is fully home and the large alloy plug cover is there/tight.
If this was loose, road test car. If prob still there
3
Clutch out! You might like to replace/reface the flywheeel while there.
Use a GOOD clutch replacement, ie Exeedy from API
This job is no joke so be warned.

Unless you are good with spanners get the car to a good garage or Scooby specialist.

Default gearbox

Thanks for that advice 911. Its very much appreciated. I was just worried my gearbox was knacked. I have been getting some clutch shudder as well thinking about it.

Clutch judder COLD is quite normal. My UK turbo was a bitch for about 3 miles then all was well.
In traffic I had almost the same issues as yours, and a full flush/bleed of the clutch using Dot 5.1 cured both! The dealer in this instance did it for me.

Well I dont know what happened with the gearbox or clutch the other day, because last night I drove it over 80 miles to go the england match and it was sweet as a nut. Every gear change was spot on, and I hammered it on the way home.
Very odd.
