Unhappy slipping clutch..

ive been told that my clutch is slipping and has been for the last month or so. what i want to know is roughly how long it will last. do clutches slip for a long time or do they just go?. i am trying to drive carefully as i would like it to last till the end of the year

anyone?

Depends on what is causing it to slip: no fiction material (i.e worn out) Or contamination from a leaky oil seal on the crank.

very little chance of it lasting till the end of the year, the slipping will get worse untill it goes altogether. Best to get it sorted as soon as really !

It'll get worse Sara, especially if your driving tends to involve lots of stopping and starting etc....

Have a ord with David at APi an get the Exedy organic clutch, you'll need a hefty engine conversion to overwhelm that!!!

you'll either be locked in gear, and all you'll have to do is push it out of gear and coast to a halt or it will let you select a gear and just nothing will happen when you raise clutch pedal

you'll notice the revs go up when you put your foot down but the car wont accelerate. not selecting gear etc just tends to be when it goes completely

if its just slow at taking off it might not be the clutch, might be another issue with MAF sensor or something like that, best bet is get it to a specialist and get them to check it out

thats what mine does

i had a service last week and was told then. a couple of people had already said it sounded like my clutch from the noise it was making. i thought it might have been a fuel filter or something. BTW i am non turbo atm, thats why i am trying to hold out till the conversion is done

not sure what a clutch would be for my classic

Maf or clutch. best one i've heard yet

Sara - stop riding the clutch at junctions or when stationary on slopes Remember: Handbrake and engage neutral.

Also borrow somone else's car (preferably somone you don't like) and practice clutchless gearchanges - may come in handy

she said it was slow to respond not just clutch didn't bite

lol

sara, is the new engine going in the same shell? also what are you doing with the old engine?

not sure if you can use a turbo clutch in a sport, might be worth looking into though.

my exedy organic (NOT FROM DAVID @ API) started slipping and 100 miles later it was kapppuuttttt , 3000 miles , 4months . seller said it was not warranted . . shan't mention there name but it sounds like SKAM KILL

my00 uk 350 bhp - 349 lbs/ft torque

purchased 1 from david , alot cheaper , looks totally different and has lasted 8 months , 7000 miles and it's still perfect and that includes alot of 6500 rpm launches (off road)
david also has given me a very good warranty period

Sarah, if you know the clutch is gone, dont drag it out, you post a lot about seeing people on the M1 etc, that is not a place you wanna be when it does go, especially if you have a little girl with you.

And yup you will need to change the gearbox when you do the engine (eventually )

I'll sell my scooby if she wants...comes with a turbo engine, turbo gearbox, and I'll also throw in a can of yellow paint(literally)

What are they worth these days? 2 soggy poddadums and a prawn cracker?

i have a question if anyone can answer it..............

as i am going for a conversion and will need to change the clutch and gearbox anyway, can i get an upgraded clutch and fit it on my car without having the conversion done first. or would i be better off changing the clutch and gearbox together then going for the conversion at a later date...anyone?
