Default Clutch or Syncros on their way out

Hi there,

Been having a look at a mates WRX STi 1998, It is difficult to get it in any gear once the engine is started, once in gear car pulls away as normal. Happens hot or cold. Any gear can be selected once the engine is off. Could it be the clutch ( Dragging slightly )though there is no crunching or grinding when attempting to engage gear. Syncros would these all cause problems at once.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Certainly sounds like a dragging clutch from your description. Assuming the stroke is ok, maybe try bleeding the clutch as a first task.

Is there a special procedure to bleed the clutch system?

I have similar problems and last weekend drained all the old fluid out of the clutch circuit and filled it with new. I ended up with a huge airlock in there which took loads more bleeding and bracing the pedal to the steering wheel with a piece of wood over a couple of night before it operated ok again.

A pressure bleeder sounds interesting, might have to look into one of those, my mate was on about them, they work off the tyre pressure don't they?

On mine there are two bleed nipples on the system, one by the slave cylinder and the other on the pipework above the reservoir, no idea why the pipes go all over the place like they do!! (UK MY00)

Thanks for the suggestions will start having a go, regarding the pipes going everywhere, Roger Clark sold me a flexi pipe ( Braided ) which goes from the clutch master cylinder direct to the slave cylinder, propper job and thoroughly recommended.
