Default Quickshift Gearstick, How much££??????

Im looking to buy a quick shift Gearstick but the one i've seen in Demon-tweeks by B&M is £100 which is a ******* disgrace for a piece of metal with a ball on top.
Does anyone know of a decent one and how much?
The B&M one says it reduces travel by around 22%, i dont know how much of a change u would feel from that.

hi, i just bought one yesterday from demon tweeks, paid £90 for it (prices are cheaper in the motorsport catalogue) and the difference it makes is worth every penny.

How does it look? is it still a fairly short stick, i mean it does'nt stick a mile up in the air does it?

its no taller than the standard item, if anything its slightly lower but theres nothing stopping you trimming a little bit off.

The cost of these parts is stupidly high.

The kit simply changes the fulcrum point of the simple mechanism.
If you cut the length of the stock lever it will give some of the same effect, but tricky as it is threaded.

My Sti v3 has the shorter shift as stock, and the change is great compared to the UK 1999 turbo I once had.

Guess you have to pay.
Incidentally, is Ebay cheaper??

I just cut fulcrum point off carefully with grinder from shaft and and re-welded and he-presto short shift for nothing .

bought mine off ebay for about £25 IIRC, found a fitting guide either on here or google (an american site i think)

bit of mucking around getting rid of a vibration at the mounting point, but an easy job and makes a big difference

yeah, i'd say you have to move the stick about a quarter less distance to engage gear so it'll be the same sort of performance as the B&M

got my b&m one from ebay for £40, i had a cheapy £25 also from ebay fitted before and both function exactly the same, just the b&m one is lighter and finished much better (not that you see it once it's finished )

oh, you get a free gearknob with the b&m one as well

Wink

I had a short shift, I got it second hand, dunno whose make it was, but I thought it made the shift clunky.

I've achieved a compromise by fitting a Momo gearknob to the old stick: it seems to sit much lower than the OE ****, and the shift "feels" shorter, and is back to the OE precision.

If anyone wants to try the one I had, I'll send it you for the postage, about £3. It comes with a new bush, and fits a '98 car, dunno about others.

works fine for me

like the original poster says, it's only a piece of bar with a ball on the bottom and a couple of lugs to poke a bolt through
