Just had my WRX mapped......333bhp, 305lbs of torque and blew third gear up on the way home.....

Need an STi box..reconditioned......who, what, why, when and how?

Cheers

IMHO:
It is the torque that kills the box, and 3rd is the weak one!
I have an Sti v3 with 407 x 360 lbft, and living on the edge, but all ok so far.

For gearbox options call David at www.apiengines.com and he will guide you fair and square.

The options are about £700 for a v6 gearbox, through to 2000 for the 6speeder to £3000 for a bullet proof 5 speeder, all plus fitting.
The last 2 will put the problem to bed for ever.

Good luck.

You need to buy a 6 Speed "kit" they usually go for around 1700-1900** for everything you need, I have been looking quite recently in fact.

Got a second hand unit to get me by in the end, but will eventually go for the uprated 5 speed.

As above David at API is your man to speak to here.

Went through a couple of standard 5 speed boxes in my wrx. Now got a 6 speed fitted and all is well. I prefer the better acceleration too!

Nathan

P.S. I paid £2100 supplied and fitted at a local garage about a year ago.
