Default Turbo - shaft play

I bought a TD05 a few months ago and it's due to be fitted and remapped on the 15th.
As I was bored, I've just had a good look at it and checked a few things, including the shaft.

It doesn't wobble, but the shaft can be moved at the compresser end, probably less than 1mm. It feels 'notchy' when you move it.
Is it normal to have a slight bit of movement, or should it be solid?

Also, the bolt on the picture below is only half screwed in.

What's this for and should I move it?
Should mention that it's being fitted and mapped at Scoobyclinic, so they should know the score on this anyway, but just want to put my mind at ease really.

Cheers

The bolt is for the oil feed and goes through the banjo fitting already on your car.
Once the bearing has lost its oil then the shaft will wobble a very small amount and feel like its catching.
Dribble some oil in the hole with the bolt, till it comes out the other end and try again.
It looks like it has a fresh compressor cover on it. I take it that you've had a recent TD05FE conversion. Perhaps the supplier can give you some firmer assurance about its condition or even a warranty?

I bought the turbo off ebay and spoke to the seller, who did the conversion the week before, and he seemed to know what he was talking about.
Are the internal parts likely to have been changed with the conversion?
The wastegate has been ported aswell if this makes any difference.
As you can guess, I don't really know what the score is with this, so any help is welcome, but it seems to be as you described, a kind of crunchy feel when the shaft moves.

Small side to side shaft movement is normal,

hold the shaft @ the compressor end and feel for in and out play, this is signs of worn bearings,

the side to side play is taken up under oil pressure

No in or out movement, just a bit of side to side, so should be OK.

Thanks for your help fellas

Unlikely that the internals were renewed when converting to FE or it would have been sold as a fully reconditioned unit.

TD05s are tough little buggers
