Arrow engine probs

Hi all, i got a power problem from my 95 impreza type RA, when the foot is down, as boost builds up to max there is a pause dip in power for about 1/2 second before the car takes off up the road, it feels a bit like overboost cutoff but the cutoff is no where as brutal, its not turbo lag becuase boost has built up, if the boost is fed in gradually then there is no problem. the engine is standard except for exhaurst/filter and an apexi induction pipe (replaces the black plastic box with the maf sensor in it i think). thx

the induction pipe wont replace the maf as your maf helps with the fuelling. Basically without it your car wouldnt last very long (unless you had a non maf based ecu)
Would check the usual suspect areas like the boost solenoid for oil, clean the lines that run from it etc. This can sometimes happen if you have just filled the car with oil.

common problem on pre 97 cars.

agree with Adam..

you can set the plug gaps smaller to over come it as a temporary measure but the coil packs need replacing.

funny you mention coil packs, the original owner had a misfire when he had the car imported and it was traced to one of the coil packs, maybe the others are following in their friends foot steps. is there any route to checking these before replacing?

not really.. you can check the resistance but cannot remember the numbers..

they tend to last around 80~100k or 5years which ever is sooner.. the heat cycle seems to kill them.. they are in close contact with the engine etc.

David at API Engines or Alyn as ASPerformance sell them at a good price.

Would recommend just replacing all four so you know they are good.

Removing them will tell all, they're usually cracked somewhere if they don't fall apart in your hands! I've got a set of Bosch MEC723s for a little less than a new set of OEM coil packs if you're interested.

caregull when removing them as they can break when undoing the 12m bolt.
