Default Lightweight Battery?

Toying with the idea of a new lighter battery. Noticed some cars using much smaller batteries (around half the size in a S2000 for example).

Anybody tried a smaller battery and are there any specific lightweight ones to buy off the shelf?

What are the differences in batteries to look out for?

Bob

I use a Bosch motorcyle battery on both cars. Light and big space savings too. Under £50. You coming to Elvington on 22nd?

Cheers guys.

Optima ones are around £150+. 17-20kg in weight

Spec'c'57: That would great mate

Harvey: Do you know the weight and part number of the Bosch one? Sounds good value too. I doubt I'll be going to SSO as its too far to travel. If it was somewhere close then I would definately come along.

I run a Braille battery - it weighs 5.6kg!

Has just enough power to check compression in all 4 cylinders before it dies. Can't let the car sit for more than 3 weeks in the cold either, but thats what the jumper cables are for.

Picked it up at www.kingofimports.com

Let me know what you decide Bob as I want to do this too.

I won't want to take passengers soon as they weigh to much

I tried an Odyssey PC1200 without success. If the car was left standing for any length of time, like a week, the alarm & tracker appeared to drain it. This became particularly annoying when my wife needed to take the car while I was out as serious earache was generally the result The race / rally cars that use some of the smaller batteries will not experience this drain so battery life will be good as will starting performance.

Not trying to talk anyone out of a lightweight battery just suggesting that it may not be suitable for everyone.

I intend to use a battery saver, which will be plugged in while the car is left standing in the garage. A small battery will be OK for this. My big battery goes flat after a couple of weeks if left uncharged anyway.

Typical battery for Subaru is 14.5-15kg. The Bosch motorbike batteries I use are 8.3 kg. Under £50 inc VAT.

Cheers Harvey. Sounds like the best option. The aftermarket ones are only 3kg lighter and cost £100 more.

Will post up the part number when I have the battery. I'm assuming that taking the OE battery spec will be suffice for the motor factors to match up a suitable Bosch motorcycle battery.
