My 02 WRX has got a funny vibrating noise coming from the gearbox in 1st, 3rd and 5th when I'm not accelerating. When I'm accelerating it's fine but the minute I come off the gas it sounds awful.

Car had a offside front wing impact in February and was sent for repair. Was fine before then. It took nearly 2 months to get car back so am loathe to take it back to repairers as they have said they will have to get insurance assessor to come back out, even though garage was supposed to be phoning back 3 weeks ago and still not heard anything.

Haven't paid garage my £400 excess tho so wondering whether just to say sod them and sort it myself.

Anyone any ideas what it could be and poss costs??
