i have a MY93 wrx, basically whenever the engine is revving beyond idle speed and i put it in reverse (when stationary), the gears grind. when idling however it goes in faultlessly. What does this mean?!?!?

try selecting first then putting it in reverse that should get the shafts spinning and stop it graunching when selecting reverse

syncromesh...? whats that about...?(excuse the inexperience). can this damage the box/clutch system at all? is it a soluble problem?

its means that on reverse gear it is essentially a "crash" gear like the original cars of tester year.......................nothing wrong with it, just how it is when it leaves the factory

simply, on all forward gears you have a "synchromesh" which assists the next gear to engage properly and stops you getting the noise you are hearing with reverse..........

the simple soloution is to do as you are now and select reverse when stationary and at idle...........
