Default Castrol EPX 75W-80 Differential Oil??

Went into Halfrauds the other day with the intention of getting some oil for my rear diff & just grabbed this one:

Castrol EPX 75W-80 Differential Oil (API GL5)

Looks like I should have done my research first as after doing a bit of reading it turns out this is a mineral based, extreme pressure multigrade oil.

Think i'll be returning it & getting Syntrax for both the box & the diff after reading a bit on here & on the Castrol site

Syntrax is a 75W-90 part synthetic if i'm not mistaken? Is this the chosen oil by the majority or is there another I could pick up from Halfrauds, Motorworld etc... I don't really have the luxury of on-line ordering as my new gearbox goes in on Tuesday.

Can I join your club?!! I read your previous thread on your gearbox. mine is in the mid stages too on my 94wrx I kept an eye on the oil. It went from a clear see-though colour to a black sludge in a few days! got whines and screeching etc too!! are you gonna rebuild old box? if so would appriecate knowing what you find broken inside!
oil change tomorrow!
cheers.

I picked up a replacement box that goes in on Tuesday. I'm sure i'll take the old one apart at some point to take a look what was going on

If your gearbox oil changes colour I would suggest you have a problem!

It's cheaper to get Syntrax (Driveline) straight from Castrol.
