Any gearbox experts??? Impreza box?
Need a bit of advice on a Scooby box, if anyone has seen one the driveshafts for the front wheels come direct out of the casing, then there is a diff in the box before coming out the output shaft at the rear of the box to go to the rear diff etc......
My question is this........ to convert to 2 wheel drive could I simply not connect the rear output shaft and it will just drive the 2 front shafts direct out the box, like a transaxle? Or do you need some pressure on the rear output shaft? I just don't understand gearboxes and diffs well enough......
Thanks guys

Hello mate i have just taken mine apart so i might be able to help. There are 2 diffs in the gearbox one for the front and one is the centre diff which determines how much of the power goes to the rear.
Are you converting to rear wheeled drive or front?
The thing is that if you just take out the prop oil will **** out everywhere. I thlnk could just remove the front diff all together and block the holes with plates.

As above.. youd need to do something with where the prop should be though..
Id use a porche box instead.

The most common 911 gearbox is the 915 type.
This is a 5 speeder and very tough. Would cost about 600 / 1000 to buy.
The 911 uses a 225mmpush mechanical clutch, the Impreza uses a 225 PULL clutch and is hydraulic.
The 915 uses a very similar 'bell housing' and starter motor to the Impreza, it looks like the same enginer did both cars.
The output shafts are 4 bolt/2 dowls, and that will be the hard bit.
I am very familiar with both transmissions, and to splice the 2 together would be a sizable engineering task unless you have full access to a good toolroom/lathe/miller/marking out facility.
Some of the 1800 Imprezas were FWD. Might be a better place to start!
Good luck,
911
