Default Engine will only crank very slowly?

Look for some advice on this one guys.

Never had any starting problems before but after some gearbox work my type r wont crank fast enough to fire up. Thought the battery might have been completely drained while in the garage for over a week (might have had the interior light on etc) thought it best to replace the battery but still no joy. I take it the a gearbox out job will be a starter motor off job also?

Sometimes it will fire if you put the jumo leads on and get the voltage up near 13.5 but other than that it just cranks mega slow.

New starter motor time? Need to make sure as its was fine before.

Cheers

they would have had to take off the starter motor to remove the gearbox.have you checked the wires to the starter ? also there is a main earth that should be fitted to one of the starter motor bolts make sure its been re-fitted.other than that try connecting jump leads directly to motor and see what happens.good luck mate

Checked the connections and they all look ok and are tight enough. Good idea with the jump leads tho, I'll give it a shot.

most of the time it's a bad battery, if that's renewd i would check al the conections from te battery. I had the same and it was the 12v pole which wasn't making good contact due to corossion

Cheers guys was a combination of the two. Corossion on the earth strap. Cleaned it up with a bit of sandpaper and bingo, one happy camper.

Chalk another victory up for scoobynet.
