I think the 3 ports appeared on 98 onwards, my Sti v3 96 had a 2 port.
On Andy's advice I fitted a 3 port before the mapping.
I'd follow Andy's advice if I were you.

Graham.

Tas, yours will have a 2-port. IIRC Bob prefers to map on a 3-port. I fitted one but then binned it for an AVC-R.

As std - 3 port up to MY96 then 2 port up to the latest WR1 which went 3 port again !

2 port will be fine on most models for up to 1.3/1.4 bar boost, after that a 3 port will maintain better control.

The need for a three port swap is not related to boost level but turbo type and mod situation. thats the criteria I use to decide. Its possible that even a car with a basic mod set needs one. the WR1, being of normal Sti, had one retrofitted as part of the Prodrive remap, in practice they were MY04 Eurospec cars afaik duly converted.

So Subaru/Prodrive finally cottoned on to what you've been saying for years Bob?
