Default AEM Ecu for STI9

I wondering if anyone here uses the AEM ECU on their STI9?

The reason I am asking is because i havenīt decided if I should just get a EcuTek3 for my car or a new ECU. And the AEM seems to be real good.

Cheers
Johan

AEM AFAIK uses a GEMS board and their own software....

Sti 9 is an 03MY car, your's is an STi11.....

In any case, for a road car there is no better ECU than the one it's fitted with, suitably recalibrated to the spec you are changing to.

Ok, but a AEM stand alone management system has a little more paramenters and functions that can be more usable than a EcuTek.

The car will be far away from stock so the ecu must be re-mapped.

If you REALLY need the anti-lag etc for a road car? Get Motec :-)

So, what can the AEM ECU do that the std can't that would be useful on a road car? Not being funny, just interested to know.

As a stab in the dark.... the AEM is user mappable. That would be it's most useful feature over ECUTek to me

Have a crap cold start?!

Alot of money if you can't tune it yourself, I got the GEMS on my 2003 UK STI (What warranty ) and simply because I can tune it myself. Antilag is 'fun' but pointless as Mike says on a roadcar.

Other 2003 STI is ECUTEK'd as it does the job perfectly.

Tony

That would only be useful if you really know what you're doing and most people don't.

What would concern me are the nice things that the std ECU does really well, like cold starts, very clever ignition control, diagnostics by any Subaru dealer etc.

I hear what you are saying Mike. I think ECUTek is absolutely fantastic and love the things the STD ECU does well which most others stuggle at.... cold start, idle control etc (Apart from the Apexi PFC... but that's not avaliable for new age cars).

Just wish they would let people other than trade have Delta ECU.... at a reasonable cost. But then again my ECU can't be TEK'd anway having a old dog of car

Exactly :-)

I have friends who has the AEM ECU in their cars and they are very pleased (3000GT, Supra MKIV). The thing with EcuTek is that I must go to a EcuTek dealer everytime i change a part on my car to get a new map. The AEM can be remapped by friends and that is a costsaver for me.

The reason why I posted this topic is to find a Subaru user that uses the AEM and to hear what he says how it works in his car :-)
