Bungs! OK to use everyday?
Hi all
Just got a bung for my Afterburner Vortex, just to quiet it down once the decatted downpipe is fitted (can't wait - yipee!!)
I was wondering what sort of power sapping effect this bung will have.
Also restricting the exit of the backbox - does this have any potential harmfull effects to the engine? (does it increase backpressure - or have I got the wrong end of the stick?)
I've edited this thread - basically what I'm after is an opinion as to whether it is ok to use the bung day to day, every day.
Cheers
Dave

Sorry I cant help you with the loss of power with a bung bit but i have just had a full de-cat and remap done and its made my wrx quieter and thats with a vortex and non resonated centre section so get the de-cat done and worry about the bung after

Getting the remap in June!! That's the next available space! Can't wait!
Really I was just making sure that if I ran the car as normal with the bung in then I wouldn't be doing any long term damage.
But I suppose that people ring the necks of thier scoobys at track days with the bungs in so they can't do that much damage!!
Any more input would be greatly appreciated as I'm going to fit the bung today.
Cheers

Depending on the bung, it should just restrict the exhaust by a small amount. So you will lose some top end power but may gain a little bit of torque lower down the rev range.
I run mine with the bung in or out and don't really notice it, but then I don't rev the nuts off my car. On mine with the bung I think there is about 5db difference.

I've got a 3 inch decat system on my car and regularly leave the bung on - when I have the wife and kids with me on long journeys. You do gain a very slight increase in torque. Don't really rev the nuts off of it so don't know about top end loss. Use it when you want, I don't think it will give you any probs.

i use the bung in my APS 3.5" all the time unless on track.....it makes the car run ever so slightly richer, which is no bad thing.
Also eliminates the drone.
