Unhappy BUILT UP AREA FRIENDLY EXHAUST

The wife and I are looking to move into a housing estate or similair and I do not want to fall out with the neighbours. The current set up is full de-cat afterburner which I love in terms of performance gains (and the ridiculous noise) however I must get a quiter system. I only really want to replace the back box - any suggestions?

3rd for the revoloution!!! Good performance and one of the quietest modified exhausts I've heard.

Just seen the bit about the rear box replacement only, sorry but the revo system is a 3 inch so I'm not sure if you'll get away with a rear box only

Stephen, Scoobysport ! It's gotta be! Nice noise, just purposeful without being intrusive. Fits anything and in stock here.

Why not try the orginal design scoobysport back box this can be made as quiet as you like but still give the straight through design with out losing to much power.

Ian
Can vouch for the above, I have it on my MY99. Sounds great, turns heads, but doesn't annoy the neighbours or sound OTT....

All the best.

And a 5th for the Revolution System.

Decent 3"stainless steel system and good price to boot

As someone pointed out, the revolution is a full 3" system, which might not fit as you only want to change backbox. Quiet 2.5" backboxes are OEM, then MRT, prodrive, remus, and APS probably in that order. TSL Group N and the scoobysport quiet would also do the job, & I certainly wouldn't rule out the comment/offer from Ian above as H&S are good exhausts and a customised for noise one gives a very good chance of getting exactly what you want.

Also, fitting a resonated centre section and/or a sports cat, can make a good couple of db's reduction. Sports cat has the benefit of being emissions friendly, resonated centre is clearly cheaper.

It was pricey, but my full APS system with sports cat, resonator and 2.5" backbox is neighbour friendly (measured 0.5dB less than an STi 7 with centre de-cat and WR sport backbox). My aim was to make it friendly to me on motorways!

My Revolution was too loud for my estate (IMHO, and I'd rather I decided than a neighbour complained, as it is they think it is "distinctive" and one neighbour uses it as an alarm clock but didn't want me to change it when I offered, but I didn't dare use it when I had to do night visits). I got a silencer put in the centre section. But I have a 2.5 engine and a larger turbo, so it might be a bit louder because of those - I think the smaller turbine wheels choke the noise better.

A PPP or WR sport backbox are pretty quiet, if you want something that sounds OEM just a bit more purposeful. Most aftermarket exhausts make Scoobies sound like anti-social WW2 bombers and make me feel like even more of a chav than I look driving a Scooby already.

I feel the days of the obtrusive exhaust are over.
I have a Magnex 3'' full decat and it gives 93 dB at 5500rpm and very low note at tickover. I once got the trophy for the quietest exhaust at a hill climb race!

I wish there was a tech thread that accuratly revealed a 3'' system with sports cat/mid resonator and back box @ 93 or so dB compared to the '3'' drainpipe' on flow rate and noise.

'Chav' is a good word, annoying to tolerant 'live and let live' neibourghs is not good.

Police are picking up on it all too, or is that down to the Nova/Corsa boys?
