Question How would you rate a ScoobySport exhaust..?

Morning all.

My MY00 Classic is in dire need of a better exhaust note and I've got my eye on the ScoobySport back box... which I believe is made by Hayward & Scott..? I've got a custom-made H&S system on my MR2 Turbo and have no complaints about its construction.

Apart from a couple of subtle cosmetic changes, my Scooby is totally standard and with a baby soon to appear on the scene (and a whole house that needs DIY!) the Impreza won't get to visit modification heaven... but I'm prepared to spend some on getting the back box replaced. I'll be keeping it simple... no de-cat pipes or centre sections... just the silencer.

For those with ScoobySport/H&S boxes, how would you rate them..?

Following a quick price search, the SS box isn't the cheapest but it's not the most expensive either. I'm happy to pay for quality and for noise I'm after a nice note (doing the Boxer burble some justice) but without being too intrusive. If I punch the fun pedal hard and it growls at me then that's fine... but cruising at 70-80mph I hope it's reasonably tame.

Thanks for your time.

Jonts.

I think you'll find the new scoobysport exhausts are made by Janspeed now not H&S.

Thanks for the info. No doubt I'll deal direct with Ian/H&S then... unless their system is as much use as a chocolate lamp shade.

I think you will find many happy customers who have H&S systems.

I find my old scoobysport/H+S to be fantastic. Nice sound (mine seems lounder than most tho??) and seems to perform too.

Have an H&S BB on my classic and it's really nice.

On cruise it's fine (e.g. at Motorway speeds most of the noise comes from road/wind), not too intrusive at all.

Tickover gives a deeper note than the standard BB, and you can hear it burbling away.

Full chat and it really sings, but without making your ears bleed.

I think H&S can also tailor the noise levels up and down, which may be why Tony's is louder than average.

Tone,
How old is your system/back box?
H&S used to (about 4 years ago) do a loud back box and a normal one

I had a loud one and it was very nice
Only took it off as i uprated to a 3" still using the DP though!

Eeek, can of worms re-opened!!

The Scoobysport exhaust is now manufactured by Janspeed. Many happy customers.

The 'original Scooby design' -as I believe its referred to in the adverts- is by H&S, who used to provide the exhausts for Scooby Sport, also many happy customers, including myself. It makes a lovely burble when idling and a great roar under WOT, but it won't make your neighbours hate you. The best thing would be to attend your local Scooby meet and listen to cars that have had them fitted. I doubt you'd be dissapointed wither way.

Regards.

Gents, I thank you. My mind's made up and I'll be contacting H&S at some point (given I've had previous dealings with them.) Their version sounds like everything I want. Yay!

Regards,

Jonts.

Think i got mine about 2001ish.... but when i ordered i wasn't given an option of normal or loud. Last time John Felstead was at my house he commented mine was much louder than his (on the Type RA). Took about 4 months to bed in tho, was initially quite quiet.

I bought mine secondhand in 2001. Think it was a couple of years old when I got it.

You must have been lucky and have got one with less packing in

You mean it should actually have packing in it . Think it must have been a friday afternoon job and they forgot!!!

Seriously it does seem to be louder than 'normal' ones, rest of the exhaust is Magnex so nothing special. next time i'm at Oulton park i think i'll get the sound level checked.
