Default cold weak engine

i own a 93 wrx (i know its getting on a bit) with 70,000 miles on it. in the mornings it starts realy well and ticks over but to rev it a little it hesitates slightly and if you try to pull off with little revs it will almost stall. when its warm its fine. i just dont like to rev her to much when its cold. usually 2.5-3k is what is needed. is there anythng i should check? is it just old, hammerd or just like the rest?

I've done 2x filter changes in the last year and I got them from Halfords no bother - £7.99.

No point on paying £7.99 for a non-genuine filter from Halfords when the your local Subaru dealer will only charge about £5 for the proper one and a sump plug washer.

I second that. Halfords wanted 2.99 for a reverse light bulb. Got one from subaru for 1 squid!

The problem is, it'd cost me to travel the distance to the dealer but I have a Halfords on my doorstep (not literally ).

Dealers will post stuff out... it will still be cheaper than a Halfords one.

Seriously, I am not that hard up that I need to save £1.80 - original filter and sump plug washer is £6.19 including VAT .

Yes but the point is the OEM one is better quality, it's not all about money . It's just a happy coincidence it is also the least expensive. IIRC Harvey found all other filters he tried caused a small drop in oil pressure.

Tony.

P.S my filter from the dealer was less than £5 inc VAT.

Yup, that was what I meant, why compromise on the quality of the filter when it's not even cheaper, in fact it costs more?

Do you have any evidence to back up your claims of inferior quality? Just because it comes from the dealers doesn't mean it is any better at filtering oil. Also, Subaru are using the smaller filter whereas Halfords are using a fullsize filter (hence the cheaper price maybe?). I can't believe we are arguing over a couple of quid saving...it'd cost me more than that to get to the dealers in the first place. I'd rather pay Halfords the money for saving me a 50 minute round trip to get an original item .

We are getting way off topic here. Instead of bashing Halfords, just let's agree that they have their place in the market.
