Diff advice please
Now have a noise coming from the back of my car which I am assuming to be the diff. There is no noise under load or when stationary. Sounds like a fairly loud drone.
I did have a knocking noise from the back of the car and ended up getting some more bushes for the T bar piece (connected to the diff). Thats when i noticed this new noise.
My question is how much is a new diff? Can I get mine reconditionedand if so how much?
How is the damage caused?
car is MY00 uk turbo with 60k on the clock.
Spoke to a person who used to have a P1 and he said they put an uprated diff in them. Is this true and if so how much?
Thx in advance.

Sounds like the same problem I have
Noise started around 12 months ago, a quiet droning. I assumed it to be rear wheel bearing as the noise was coming from N/S rear. Changed it but it made no difference.
Noise is now very loud, even above radio. Just this minute took it back in to be diagnosed and we think its a bearing insside the rear diff.
The options I am looking at are (a) Replace diff with second hand (£211) plus labour of around 1.5 - 2hours
(b) Overhaul existing diff with new bearings
I am awaiting price on second option but I have been told it's a long job hence labour cost will be relatively huge.
Hope this helps
