Default STI7 into MY98

Need to replace my engine and weighing up the choices.
Anybody know if this is possible or is it a pain in the rump, have someone more than capable of switching the engines just need to know what is my best and most practical option.
Another option is rebuilding my existing engine, my friend has STI7 heads, VF30 turbo, headers, everything except the block and crank really, would these bits fit my block easily isthis an option?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Cheers in advance
Dave

what is wrong with your engine? block or heads?

STi7 uses different ecu and pulleys and sensors and you would need to do a fair amount of work to get the complete engine running on standard etc.. imho..

idle valve is difference control, throttle position switch is wired different.. ecu's are both wasted spark but one with separate ignitor and one not.

You would do better to buy a same age engine from www.hdcsubaru.com for example.

...but of course if you get the wiring loom (engine) and ecu with the engine then it would make things easier...

short block is interchangeable with the right head gaskets to keep the compression ratio correct I believe.
