Default vf36 on a classic?

Hi all,

Would be interested in doing a project on installing a vf36 onto a MY99 UK classic. How bolt on would this be, does anyone know? I'm assuming that I'll need some JDM STI manifold/exhaust bits for the twin scroll. I currently have a H&S decat downpipe, and some OBX equal length headers. Already have a TEK3, but appreciate it'll need a remap. Also aware of the possibility of lunching the UK 5sp box.....

Any advice and where I could source the parts at a reasonable price?

TIA

Mark

APi has 4 off V36 twin scroll turbochargers arriving from Japan today with delivery from the docks by the 6th.

£600 plus VAT and a bit of carriage to be added. We also have a 4 off STi 8 top mount intercoolers on the same container. PLUS many other parts.

Give me a call if any use. David APi Engines / APi Impreza

Mark,

Your gains dont really necessitate you doing this, if you have never driven a car with a twin scroll turbo, you wont miss anything, and all your going to gain is alot of pain and hardship for which a vf34 will do a similar job and much easier, or the other way if you wish to do this is just to get an STi twin scroll engine, gearbox and diff (the engine will probably be more reliable also).

I disagree with that !! The twin scroll STi imported cars from late 2002 onwards have a fabulous power delivery and it is entirely due to the characteristics of the new exhaust manifold and the turbo operation. The VF 34 is, I agree, waste of time and effort for such a little gain. The VVT does come into it a bit, of course but in general the breathing of the new system will work well on a standard cams.

I reckon that it's more than worth a go!! rather than dismissing it out of hand, whether you buy any bits from me or not.......

Shhhh David
Im trying to get him to go for the engine also if hes going to do this, otherwise i dont think it is worthwhile, though the gearbox will need sorting quite quickly as my Twin scroll monster is pushing 331lbs of torque with just an STi panel filter

Tony

Ps i take it you have some of the twin scroll STi engines in stock?

I find that, no matter what car I'm in - at certain speeds, the warble gets left behind in the airflow and you can't hear it anyway.

Shhhhhh Don't mention 2.5 on here you'll have more advisors [ ers?] than you can shake a stick at !!!!

LOL David API

EMS The last set of 'twin scroll' exhaust headers and pipes and sump etc l nicked off an engine for a guy called Zisis in Greece. Probably not too exceited about doing that too often. BUT l can order from Japan and receive quite quickly. Manifold and up pipe was about £780, New; from memory. The oil pan was around £200 plus a bit extra for the strainer pipe and the dipstick.
