Default Dodgy Spark Plug?

non-scooby related

Have spent the afternon trying to figure out why the westy has been running on 3 cylinders.

Turns out replacing the spark plug fixed it?

However the spark from the duff plug visually appears to be every bit as good as the other plugs. Distance is the same at 1.1mm as well.

Is this usual when a plug is dead? I always thought a dud would not spark or would spark very weakly?

90% of ignition related misfires are caused by dodgy spark plugs. It is ALWAYS the first thing you replace upon rectifying missfires. They can still spark...just sometimes half the spark energy gets lost somewhere else.

As a dodgy plug can show up faults or cause premature failure in plug leads, coil packs, dizzy caps, rotor arms etc. Many people are fooled into thinking the initial or triggering fault lie in them rather than the spark plug.

Glad you sorted it
