ECUTEK 3 and exhaust mods advice sought
Hi All,
Here's one for the knowledgable/experienced on here. I've had my Scooby (MY99) for a while now and am giving serious thought to modifying beyond the H&S backbox I've had fitted.
I'm not looking for BIG power gains and the car must remain reliable and any mods safe. What I'd like is to bring the turbo in a little earlier, beef up the torque and BHP a little, particularly low down and bring it in over a wider rev range. Any other improvements welcome. I'd had the following thoughts:
Sports cat down pipe and a ECUTEK 3 remap.
Thing is, ideally I'd like to do both seperately (financial reasons) and I understand from comments on here that changes to the exhaust without a remap runs the risk of running lean and/or overboosting. Seems sensible to do the ECUTEK 3 remap first and then have the map modified -much cheaper than initial remap as I understand it- after the exhaust change.
How much can I expect, with respect to the above aims, from the ECUTEK 3 remap alone. Any issues I should be aware of?
Best

Is it a UK car? If it is, it will be fine without a remap short term (or even long term!) Its quite expensive and probably a waste of time TEK3 ing it as it is now, as it will cost £700 plus, then you will need a £125 remap once you have added the exhaust. I would do the exhaust / panel filter, then get it remapped.
Best mods you can do on your UK car is a decent panel filter, downpipe and mid section to match your back box, then the remap.
I ran my UK MY99 for ages with no remap, as do many others. No overboost, and no det. If you are keeping the standard turbo, a 2.5" system should do you fine.
Your other option is a TEK2 off the shelf map which is designed for a decatted UK car.
The TEK3 is a custom map where more mods are present, or if its an Import and needs adjustment for UK fuel.
The difference you will notice when you do the downpipe will keep you smiling for quite a while, and the tek map is like adding the downpipe all over again
Think there's a group buy on at Xtreme Scoobies?

Hi DBm,
Yes, it is a UK car fully standard apart from a H&S backbox. Was thinking of going back to them for a sports cat downpipe. Expensive, but saves hassle and keeps things road legal. Won't a decat downpipe give a CEL warning light without a remap?
Best.

Ta, BTW are you referring to the ECUTEK groupbuy at Xtreme or is there a sports cat downpipe buy I don't know about?
Best wishes,

Not really Mark, might do it, might not, can I justify spending that amount for the gain, bearing in mind that i now have another vehicle, and it'll only be doing maybe 5k per year!!! especially considering my income level, will have to think about it some more...
