Question What level of power is suitable for a standard fuel pump?

I'm working out tuning options at the minute for my MY98 scoob.

I'm not looking for 300 bhp plus, more like a moderate increase up to 270ish using a free flowing exhaust/filter, aftermarket turbo hoses and a remap. Car is used as a daily driver.

Is the standard fuel pump fine for this level of power, and would it be advisable to consider any other mechanical replacements? BTW, I've already improved the brakes - I don't believe you should start what you can't stop .

lol you're tuning a scoob now ! it's a runaway process

Std pumps vary, some will run to 350bhp, others are running lean at 280bhp. As long as your remap takes account of your air/fuel ratio then you may get away with it.
I would however recommend fitting one for peace of mind it's £100 ish well spent IMO

MY98 remap????

Power Engineering I presume????

I have read another thread which mentioned TEK3 on a MY98....can this be done???

Should I just stop buying stuff for my MY98 and buy a MY00 and do the mods to that????

MY MY98 PPP made a healthy 260bhp with de-cat, panel filter and standard pump/injectors etc. MY97/98 Prodrive ECU's can't be remapped but offer a much cheaper alternative (cost around £300 2nd hand) to the Apexi/Link/GEMS/Motec route.

If you want to continue modding after this (and you will ) i'd go straight for the Apexi ECU. Initial cost is over double the PPP price but it will help you gain more from your de-cat/filter with a custom map.

Very funny Andy, you know exactly what I mean! BTW, is changing the fuel pump a time-consuming job for a garage, or is it pretty straightforward?

Marty, there have been a few threads about mapping the MY97-98 cars, and the two routes most recommended are PE or yer man Andy.F. Power Engineering service my car and are local, so I think I'm going to ask them to do the job - it's not a TEK3 AFAIK, they use a piggy-back board to reprogram the ECU.

I'm not intending to push it any further after the remap, but if I was going to keep tweaking I'd be very happy to go with Andy. So don't tempt me

Mike P, Changing the fuel pump is really quite easy to do yourself.
It must be, as I did mine and I`m no expert.

Neil.
