Default Knock Link 1st Orange with 109 RON ????

Hi all,

OK I have a JDM STi-7, decat zorst, uprated fuel pump, boost Gauge and KL.

We can only get 95 RON gas here so I have been running the stock ecu with the timing retard pulled back 5 degrees via the delta dash retard tool. It runs ok but sometimes I still get some red on the old KL.

I decided to do a test to see if the KL was over sensitive or if it was indeed the poor gas as I figured the -5 retard would keep me safe even on 95 RON and I shouldn't be seeing any oranges or reds.

I purchased 5 gallons of 109 RON gas and added it to about 2 gallons of the 95 RON gas already in the tank. So in theory the mixtue should be way above 100 RON.

I did an ecu reset so that retard went back to normal.

I was amazed to see some orange on the KL even on this super high RON gas ??? Doesn't make sense at all.

The temp was about 23 degrees C at the time.

How is it possible that I am still seeing orange on the KL ? The temps were reasonably cool, the gas was way above the recommended RON rating and my car is virtually stock except for the decatted zorst. I am not getting overboosting of any kind as I have an adjustable flow valve where the restrictor should be and I never get more than about 1.15 bar boost period.

I need help please.

Thank you,
Ray

Could be a number of things. Can you get a Deltadash log of the car?

Is the 109RON oxygenated? If so could be a bit lean?

The oxygenated fuel tends to have a higher density to compensate. You also need to try and listen to the car with det cans as it could be engine noise of some sort.

KL is installed exactly where everyone else here installed it on top of the block under the IC.

Here are the specs on the race gas, it is the GT PLUS unleaded one:

Can I email someone a log ? I have a 3rd gear switching into 4th gear log, will this do ?

Cheers,
Ray

You need to get some logs in the higher gears. In that log your turbo spools up very late, looks like 2nd gear with a change into 3rd. I see no knock correction, as advance multiplier is at 16 throughout.

3rd on a 6 speed is quite short I suppose. but to get a better idea od knock activity you want to be doing you run in at least 4th from 2000rpm. Can you also log the actual ignition correction aswell as the advance mutiplier?

Also is there a knock count you can monitor?

I will have to try and find a long enough road without risk to get the 4th gear.

I checked all the parameters on that last log so that is everything DD is capable of logging for the JDM STI-7 at this time.

I will repost once I get the 4th gear log done. Thanks all for help. Anyone have any other comments ?

Cheers,
Ray

if you can get to just 5500rpm in 4th it would help, then do another in 3rd, maybe hold it on the brakes at 2500 to give the turbo time to spool.
