Gear shift not resetting to Centre

Gear shift not resetting to Centre
Strange one this.
When I first use the car for the day the gearshift will not spring back to the centre when changing from 5th to 4th. Works fine btween 1 - 4th.
However after about 10-15 mins driving even if I have'nt previously used 5th it starts working perfectly. Now before you ask it's a BMW 328
but I am hoping the basic workings are the same. Asked on the BMW site but no real joy.

That was my first thought when it happened but would'nt answer the fact that it works perfectly after 10mins. Cheers anyway.
