Default Hot Start Problems

Hello there,

I've started having problems starting my 96 UK Turbo when it's been running for a while. It starts first time when cold but gets no spark when trying to restart after hot. I've been told it could be the crank sensor that's playing up, would this be right ? Has anyone else had similar probs ?

Cheers,
Kev

Yep classic signs of crank sensor, try cleaning it first.. it sits on the front top of the block between the pulleys..
undo the biolt and pull it out and wipe with a cloth and some brake cleaner, carb cleaner, or white spirit etc.. problem usually goes away after cleaning for a while but will eventually return.

The cam sensor looks identical but is easier to locate as it is below the oil filler.. look for the similar sensor on the front of the engine..

Default Removed crank sensor..

I removed the crank sensor, it looks pretty shot, don't suppose the cylinder part of it's supposed to rotate with finger pressure ?!? I don't think cleaning it will do much good, looks like I'll have to get a new one. Will see it it sorts out the starting problems.

Cheers for the info,
Kev

No not suppose to rotate!

check the cam sensor is okay whilst you are at it.

best place for a secondhand item would be www.hdcsubaru.com they usually managed to deliver next day, although christmas postage might delay it slightly.

Otherwise to the dealer for a new one!

Got a new crank sensor from my local dealer, and now fitted it, what a different car !!! It must have been affecting more than just the starting as it's idleing smoother and pulling through the revs better as well.
Couldn't be more chuffed !!!
Bit expensive for the sensor, but it's put the smile back on my face having my scoob back as it should be !

Cheers for the help,
Kev
