Default clutch query on 97 catalunja

Hi
As stated in my first post I have a deposit on the above car. I have a query with the clutch: when releasing it after changing the pedal comes up ok except for the last inch of travel, at this point it seems to go much lighter and then springs up the last bit of travel.

The garage I am buying it off say they will look into it but they aren't up on these cars and I don't want to be fobbed off before handing the cash over.

Cheers

Nick

Dont really know what this could be Nick. I too have a 97 and recently had to replace the clutch due to excessive slipping with the increased power. It cost 400 plus fitting for an AP organic but cured all my problems including the judder on cold mornings.
Something to bear in mind I guess if they dont fix it. Might be worth haggling a bit on the price just in case it needs to be replaced at some point. May be something simple though.........

Good luck

My Borg & Beck (Exedy) clutch cost me £110 and £150 to be fitted they have quite good ratings on here if that helps.

Heres the pics

You can zoom in to the pic of the reciept to get the contact details of where i got it from.

You might not need a clutch though if its not slipping!!

Ta folks - no its not slipping and all gears engage fine.
I'd read that a new OE clutch is £354 and then there's the fitting which is a box out jobbie. Is this correct - bit frightening.

Borg & Beck Clutches are up to the job do a search on them!! there highly recommended especially in place of an original clutch.

As far as i am aware it is a box out job.

5 hours labour-cost me about £150.00 for fitting and additional bearing.

Hi
Spoken to the last owner who said that he'd had the cable/linkage? greased as the clutch pedal was getting stuck. I assume what I have experienced is related?

Anyway the chap assured me that there were no known problems to him and that no expense had been spared on the car.

I had this happen on a car I had. I think it was a problem with the clutch master cylinder. I'm not sure if there is anything you can do with the adjustment to get rid of the problem. I was advised that a new clutch master cylinder would fix it, but I never bothered.

I had a Borg and Beck which has served me well but started slipping at my current power (330-340ish bhp), I've since replaced it with an Exedy organic from API, which was £366 shipped including the bearing.

This is a very common problem. I suffered from it big time.
1
Bleed the clutch using Dot 5 grade fluid.
2
If above no good, then strip the clutch master off the bell housing.
Remove plunger rod with dust cap
Remove internal cone shaped spring and g e n t l y stretch it to 60mm long.
Replace above, bleed off cylinder with piston clamped into the full depth of the master cylinder. Bolt back on.
3
If THAT doesn't work:
Remove clutch pedal (not too hard). On bench remove the large coil spring off the assembly (might be under some compression, beware!). Replace assembly.

That WILL work, but the pedal will feel a bit 'wooly' at the very top of the travel.(pedal a bit harder too)
While you/they are under there check that the free travel of the pedal is about 10 mm. Adjustment will be obvious to the garage.

Good luck, 911

Quite often something simple like the small return spring missing / broken / gone soft. Check that first - under the intercooler. Otherwise a proper bleed fixes the sticky travel thing.

Subaru do this from time to time with often no explanation. I had a sales car that l had been driving as a daily runabout. Perfect car, the on the morning I was delivering the car the clutch started doing the sticking halfway trick.

Big panic, but then it fixed itself and doesn't seem to have come back.
