Question New Age Exhaust Advice...

Hi Folks,

Have been thinking about an exhaust mod for my 02 STi Prodrive.

Been looking at the H&S backbox and centre pipe, but not sure about going further... Is it worthwhile doing the extra cat section too and is it possible to carry this out yourself on ramps without professional help?

Also, are protection measures necessary (re-map, knocklink, gauges etc.) just to this level. Was hoping that the removal of the down-pipe was the step at which the safe performance of the vehicle was in doubt.

Have owned a de-catted RB5 in the past, it was safe, sensibly resonated and surprisingly quick. I don't wanna spend over the odds at this stage, but do want to try and tackle the all or nothing characteristic of the STi with more low range power/torque.

I will obviously incorporate an ITG, STI or induction kit mod as par for the course.

Any help/advice much appreciated...

Ta,

Ed

the centre is definately worth doing, and maybe the backbox if you want a noise change, although the prodrive bb flows pretty well.

the problems could arise if you go further and change the downpipe and / or up-pipe, and PPP maps are quite intolerant and it could cause you problems. you should be ok changing the bb and centres.

you currently have a nice balance of safe and reliable power, and I would be cautious about going any further than centres and backbox as you could end up spending rather a lot!

Sorry, I should have mentioned that it is only the Prodrive style STi and does not have the PPP (wish it did and I can't afford £2k!).

Having done a bit of further research, would I be right in thinking that the MAF is housed in the Cat section from 2001 onwards?

Cheers,

Ed

Eddie, MAF sensor (Mass Air Flow) is in the pipe which feeds air to your turbo, measures the amount of air going into the engine. Not part of the exhaust at all.

Yeah you're right, I realised this after posting! I guess what I meant was lambda probe? It's been a while, have had to put up with VAG motors for the last year! :-(

Any help appreciated...

Hi, ive got an HKS Hiper Silent with DP on my 02 Sti Prodrive.Combined with a Dawes Device i get boost from 3200rpm and 1,2bar.Had to mount a DD because the boost was changing all the time under load. Now its 1,2b at peak.
Had to make my own CEL fix for the O2 sensor in the DP.

It's the TSL Firestorm backbox (5" tailpipe) and unsilenced centre pipes (has hole for lambda sensor) - no cel lights with this fitted
It's stainless so wont rust - no dents, etc just needs a good polish

i'm in west yorkshire
