Will My Engine Cope...
Have posted this before...
Need to know if the mods will safely deliver near 340bhp to MY98?
How much torque can i expect?
Can the engine cope with this? (what is the limitation)
Do i need to change or upgrade anything more?

VTA means the Vent to Atmosphere dump valve.
I'd expect 320 bhp ish, maybe 300 lb/ft torque. Not sure on diameter of exhaust system, tip size is no judgement for flow.
No idea if UK cars can handle much more power, an STi internal short motor would be stronger and allow a higher rev limit of 8k ish!
Andy F will get the best out of what you now have! ( I'm there on the 19th! )

Andy at the moment is finding it difficult fitting me in.. the only places on the list are Aberdeen (Scotland) or Oldham or there was Bristol but that was too soon for me.
Thinking about it, I could not have the expenditure of travelling 100 odd miles out for a map, then the map cost on top.. just over spent on my Scoob's recently…

I'm currently at around 340bhp on my MY97 with the following mods,
Greddy Profec e-01 boost controller.
Magnex de-cat downpipe.
Magnex de-cat centre section.
GT Spec II exhaust headers.
TSL Firestorm backbox.
NGK PFR7B plugs.
K&N Induction kit.
Forge VTA dump valve.
TD05/06 -20g
Hybrid FMIC.
550 injectors.
Walbro uprated fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator.
Andy F mapped Apexi Power FC.
I'm running the 20g at 1.3bar, it's a bit laggy and I probably could have got my current power with a TD05 FE, but when I replace my gearbox I have much more potential with the TD05/06 -20g.
It's going on the dyno soon so I'll know what it's putting out. As I said it should be around the 340 mark.
Oh, and my clutch (borg and beck) has started slipping at this power level, so I'll be getting a decent clutch fitted next week.

vta may well be vent to atmosphere on the dump valve
its also a way of using the breather mod to maximum effect.
ie, rather than vent your cam/crank breathers into a catch can, vent them down to the road.

rather than using a catch can which means you recirc dirty stale air.
its only slight if at all but worth it as part of a package.
I difdnt fit breathers over the ends because they can get badly gunked up and stop the system working efficiantly

The pistons and headgaskets will have the most strain put on them if the engine is detting, or you are running very lean AFRs. With normal running, high boost shouldn't be a significant problem if mapped correctly, although it will, I am sure reduce the reliability below the stock levels of 200,000 miles on a factory setup.

Seems a similar answer as to my post asking for ideas of safe max boost pressure!
As much as it will take!!!
But as you increase combustion pressures ( and you will as you increase the air/fuel mix in the cylinder as you up the boost ) then there will be a breakaway point where the gasket and head clamping pressure just can't take it, and so the head gasket blows.
Also you may start to get piston ring blow by as the rings / bores are worn significantly at higher mileage ... but then again they may be very well sealed and worn in so no gas passes - check your crank breather to see how bad it is.
This is all assuming all is set up well for the engine, ECU, cold air, etc. but if you use poor fuel ( Det ! Bang go pistons?? or big ends ??) or mixture is weak ( bye bye pistons as they melt in over hot gas ?? ) then the engine won't survive too long.
That's why you got all that kit and a PFC and are getting it remapped! to get SAFE , RELIABLE power!!
You should be ok with your set up and ecu and Andy F mapping it soon.

Well put Neil.
Each engine will respond differently to increased power output and will have a different life expectancy. In my opinion this is based mainly on its past history, not so much its new spec, assuming that its new spec is a properly tuned set up.
No reason why a healthy unabused UK engine cant run 350 bhp for years without any problems.
