Default Drive shaft noise ? Help

I have a 97 classic with 79000 miles.
There is a noise which seems to be coming from the the near side front.
Its a drone and knocking noise that is wheel speed related and it gets louder when cornering right ie rounderbouts.
Any thoughts / experience would be much appreciated.

If it was a constant drone I'd think wheel bearing, but the knocking makes me think CV joints perhaps ?

Thanks
Clint

No noticable play in the wheel, but will check again this evening.
Do CV joints go then ? I thought that was only knackered old Minis

lol.. no the CV joints do go from time to time.

I have been very lucky.. currently on original wheels bearings and Cv joints 153,000miles on the clock.. owned it since 76k and no mention of them in the wad or reciepts I got with it.. so perhaps it is luck or driving style??

Driving style - Ha Ha I wish. Only done 10K miles and have averaged 27mpg over 5000miles. It's mostly motorway miles..... yawn.

Bad luck by the sound of it. Guess I'm going to need a BIG hammer for a CV joint replacement.

You might be able to tell.. rubber split or could see if movement in the joint with a bar..

I know sometimes you can spray WD40 on them and the noise goes to you know it is that etc.. but never had the problem on the scoob so cannot give more info than that I am afraid.

I used to do motorway miles and car used to average about 28mpg but no all A and B roads and car modified so about 25mpg.. although on a long motorway run on holiday i have seen 320miles to a tank

Cheers.
Will have to read up on the job.
Wonder how much it would be for a garage to do it ?
