Question Clutch Pedal

Hi all,

When I change gear most of the time, I put the clutch pedal down to change gear BUT the pedal does not come back up.
Its like its stuck there, until I use my foot to pull it backup.

What can make it do this?

cheers in advance, Al.

(MY93 WRX - Standard Clutch I think )

A bib full of problems!
About 8 months ago there was a real deep thread on this topic under '911' boy, did I have a stack of grief over that.
Try to find it and read everything. there are quick things to do/try and then it gets sexy!
I'll watch your thread; if you have no luck pm me if you like or come back on this thread.

Problem is very common.

I've got a related issue, that's just started happening
WRX 94
original clutch, 58k miles (driven relatively gently)
Been fine for the last 5 years
Car been sitting stationary for the last 5 days and when I took it out the clutch immediately felt funny
On releasing the pedal it comes most of the way up, but there is a very slight delay on the last quarter of an inch and it comes up with a loud click as it hits the stop.
Never used to do it
Clutch itself seems fine (havent given it max power in a high gear yet)
Seemed to get better later on the way back

I've read the various threads about clutch pedals not coming up
The bolts and big spring assembly by the clutch pedal all look fine
The long spring between the clutch arm and the engine block is fine
(and incidentally this pulls in the direction of activating the clutch, not releasing it), and the clutch arm moves fine and disengages and engages the clutch fine.

Its just the last quarter of an inch on release (which equals the first quarter inch of pedal travel when pressing and is the free play before the fluid can be felt to compress) that is giving the problem.
(I could adjust the stop screw to get rid of this, but then the clutch might be 'rubbing')

I tried bleeding the clutch (just one press) - no sign of any bubbles
BUT the pedal didn't come up at all after the press and bleed !
Is this normal ?
Pulling it up, gets it back up, but the original issue is still present
ie works and comes back up, except for the slight pause and click on the last quarter inch

Any ideas
I can learn to live with it, but its just a bit annoying (and worrying)

Stephen

A follow up thought to my last post.

Based on the non return back up after the bleed press, it seems like it is missing some sort of spring assistance.

I should have studied the state on the pedal spring etc when it was in this stuck down state.

In my current half working state, it is only? the compressed clutch fluid that is pushing the pedal back up most of the way, and then in the last quarter of an inch the spring(s) finally take effect and push it the rest of the way up.

Update on my clutch pedal issue
It seems to have recovered now, and is just about working as well as it did before
ie just about smoothly returning without the delay and click to the fully up position.

Good luck to everyone else with clutch pedal problems

When my MY 99 Torbowagon was new it had a "sticky" clutch pedal. I investigated and decided it was stiction on the master cylinder pushrod where it went through the master cylinder dustseal so I put some Lockheed red brake rubber lubricant on the pushrod and that cured my problem if that's any help.
