Question std vs sti intercooler

after fitting an intercooler tilt-kit I stupidly didn't trim the skirt from the underside of the scoop so I have squashed a load of the cooling vanes...I've been thinking of upgrading to an sti version prior to a remap anyway but wonder if its worth the extra expense? Any guidance would be gratefully appreciated...

There is very little difference in the actual intercooler core between the UK MY99/00 and STi V5/6, but there is a difference in the pipework. If you can't straighten up your fins then get a cheap MY99/00 replacement and get yourself a Samco turbo hose set, or if you really want to upgrade, a STi8 TMIC.

have read good things about the sti8 version but am not willing to uglify my car to the extent of putting one of the industrial sized scoops on...is it worth upgrading to the sti8 and only changing the undertray...any idea on used prices too

Cheers,
Ian

IMHO (although I have an FMIC) it is worth the upgrade.

A larger scoop will help and there are some out there that look exactly like the MY97-00 scoop but are about 50% higher, I know Jap Innovations can supply these as Rich Wild has one on his car and it looks stock until you look closer.

As for STi8 TMIC price, not sure £300-350 I'd say at the moment.

Hi

The tilt kit mod and splitter. Has there been any testing by anybody to indicate the affect of these mods. Charge temps, before and after mod, and or bhp/ torque figures either by rolling road or some other monitoring equipment.

I know its a cheap mod but does it give 1% 2% 3% or more gain in performance. How does it compare with swapping to STI v8 ic

Cheers Andrew, I'll have a browse thru the gallery and see if I can find Rich's car.

Thanks for all the info!

As I've got a splitter too I'd be interested in finding out, especially an sti8 ic with the splitter...
