Question How does Prodrive BB noise compare?

Just got my Prodrive silencer (or should that be amplifier?) fitted today and wow what a noise! It sounds like a proper Scooby now!

As it's the official Subaru backed item I thought it would be a little more conservative than the other aftermarket boxes. But at the moment it sounds at least as loud as any I've heard. I'm I right or is it just my imagination?

Maybe I should start her up again and ask what my neighbours think?

Marc

I've got the prodrive back box on an sti8. I think it's tame, a lot quieter than say a magnex etc... I'll be changng it soon. However it is a lot louder than the standard box but it's not loud enough to turn heads imo....

I used to like my Prodrive / WR Sport b/box - I got it as 2nd owner and it had been bedded in by that time and lost some of the packing so made a great burble compared to standard

first time I heard it from outside the car was when one of the mechanics at the dealers drove it round the back for a service and I swear the plate glass windows rattled

took it off when I had PPP fitted and thought the PPP exhaust was quiet even with the partial decat but that b/box is getting more throaty now and heads are starting to turn as I drive up behind people The PPP setup seems to be more of a consistent engine note (like a very sedate howl when moving) rather than the dugga-dugga of the WR Sport only b/box - maybe the extra backpressure of having the centre cat in helped at the time... it's great if I leave it idling on the drive as it's a low rumble from the back

Sorry I'm not sure of the diameter, it's the standard WR Sport item in the Subaru catalogue.

Its very quiet. If you go to a meet you'll hear yours then everyone elses and realise unless you're at full chat its so so quiet.

Best you go out and buy a Hayward Scott BB and then hear the difference

Supercue,

I've got a H&S backbox and don't think it's that loud. Well, I should qualify: A lot louder and nicer sounding than the peashooters! However, I didn't want one that would register on the Richter scale, just one that would give the Scooby its burble back and turn a few heads. It does that brilliantly!

I should point out that it hasn't fully bedded in yet; only done about 300 miles and it's certainly louded and nicer sounding when hot! maybe I'll need the earplugs when it beds in fully

The wrsport back box is a lot louder than the round oval PPP backbox....

when you get to above 6000 rpm the wrsport back box sounds like it's spitting the noise out rathe than blowing

hawk

ps another highly technical answer from the hawkster

I have the Sports backbox and mine is 4", if you buy the Prodrive backbox, again the round one, that is 3.5". Both are made by Scorpion, but i think it is down to the Prodrive specs again.
