Car stuck in 1st!!!
Hi,
My Girlfriends MY99 Subaru Sport 2.0L was recently taken in for its MOT and now its stuck in 1st gear on the ramps in the garage. It did however pass the MOT.
The guy who was in it at the time said it just "fell into 1st" without him touching the gearstick.. ( hmmmmm???)
So any ideas on how this has happened?
Its done 110K and has the quick shift box. It has been making a crunch from 2nd to 1st recently even though it has new gearoil in it. Other than that it drives fine.
I'm planning on taking the box out myself, are there any guides or workshop manuals about, I've downloaded a few but they're not much help.
Cheers

They claim it was on the ramps and they where performing the last test which is the emissions. The man doing it said he was just reving it to 2K and then it just jumped into 1st and went forward into the end stops on the ramps.
Anyway I went there today and had a look myself. Rolling the car back and forth would make the crank pully turn. I put the hand brake on and turned it over and it made a bit of a funny noise but started and now its fine. Looked like it was stuck in 1st and just need a little persuasion to come out.
I think the muppit pushed it into first by accident, it went forward and then he pulled it out but it stalled as it hit the end stops and caused somthing in the box to stick. After reading on here these scoobys seems to have a problem with sticky gears.
Anyway its running fine now but still crunches into 1st if you not almost stationary on the down change.
Is it physically possible for the car to engage a gear without use of gear stick? I didn't think it was possible. I know it can in autos.

try a different gearbox oil.. castrol syntrax or redline shock proof are both good.
I cannot down shift my car into first.. she has to be stationary to get first.
