Upgrade Options for MY99 Uk??
Spec on the car before I start.....
99 Uk turbo, Samco Hoses, K+N Induction, Full H+S De-cat exhaust, "tek2.5" John Banks ecu, running approximately 275bhp and 265lb/ft torque.
Had a bit of a 'play' on the return journey from Santa Pod on Sunday with some other scoobies from the Wales mob, all of which were Sti's or JDM cars. I found that whils at top end I was not losing anything, in second and early third gear I was being absolutely murdered and really found it difficult to keep up.
So the question is this.. What is the best way to give me a bit more grunt in low gears, so I can get around the long gearing of the Uk car??
If it is a change of turbo, then what would be the best option (currently looking at VF28 or VF34)?
Or would it be the obvious option of changing the gearbox for an sti version or a six-speed from a newer car??
Opinions and advice if you please!!

Equalise the playing field by fitting a STI V5 box and final drive (AFAIK UK is 3.6 final drive JDM WRX is 3.9 JDM STI is 4.1 and JDM RA is 4.4) With your power output, which is close to STI standard,it should be a lot closer the next time you have a play The crucial thing now will be weight with UK spec cast iron bonnet, bootlid, wishbones etc,etc against STI alloy featherweight items
Oh yeah and lay off da pies big man and it will go a bit quicker IMHO

Cheeky sod!!!
Will look into prices etc. If I go for an sti box though will I need to change the diff's as well or will the box be a straight swap?

The STI is more likely to have a front LSD This mated up to a UK back diff could make the handling scary to say the least The final drive ratios are contained after the gears but before it sends power to the fr and rr diffs (the front diff and centre diff are all contained in the same Gearbox casing)
Cheers mate
P.s Wasnt being cheeky Just commenting on a basic physics principle (Less curry= more speed)

Same for the 6 speed UK box as well im afraid Out of the 2 turbo option defo go for a VF34 which is std fit on the STI8 and N10 factory rally car Problem with that is on the STI8/N10 there is 2 uppipes feeding the turbo if you keep the std headers with one uppipe then it might not supply enough volume of air to spin the turbo efficiently So if you were to buy a VF34 try and obtain a set of STI8/N10 headers The VF28 is std fit to a STI 4 IMHO Go for a TD05/06 Hybrid from AndyF and a front mount then remap it to suit your engine

WOn't be going that mental on it mate!! This is a mod on a shoestring budget I can assure you!! lol.
****. I didn't realise the box would be that much trouble!! Problem is, if I have to go for a turbo it will almost definitely be a VF28, the 34 was something that i am looking into as it is one that not many people have done yet and I like to be different! Plus it has good spool characteristics which I think would compliment the car.
That said, of I change the box will I also need a re-map or will the general engine running not be affected?

Are there any options that I may have overlooked here? I understand that a turbo/gearbox upgrade are the main two things to do on an MY99 Uk car, but is there another option for utilising what is already there which I have missed?
