Default Opinions on Haywad and Scott ful de-cat

Hopefully i ill be getting my hands on the above soon to go on a 99 Wagon. Has anybody else went straight from a standard system to the full de-cat H+S ? How does it compare in terms of performance and sound ? Hopefully it will suit me as i dont want a jap style exhaust or anything too loud. Just a nice burble and maybe more noise up in the rev range.

I assume nobody has had any probelms with the quality of a system like this ?

Also......what would I have to pay for the downpipe, centre section and back box if i were buying brand new ?

Any other general comments or info on the system would be appreciated also.

Hayward and Scott are one of the most highly regarded stainless exhaust manufacturer around.

I have 2 pipes made by then and cannot fault the quality/build.

H&S manufactured the original scoobysport exhaust systems, once scoobysport and H&S parted company H&S continued to sell this under their own name. There are probably more H&S manufactured exhausts out there in use on subaru's than any other make right now, all still backed up by their lifetime waranty.

Both my Scoobs have had original Scoobysport (H&S) exhaust systems. For those that don't like the big Jap style exhausts, I think they are the best compromise and certainly have one of the nicest sounds. My car still gets comments about the sound 3 years on from fitting. I had a bracket that failed on the tailpipe about a year ago which H&S repaired while I waited with no fuss, so can't complain really.

The wagon lets in the most exhaust noise to the cabin so if you do a lot of motorway mileage, a full decat system can get a bit tedious. I would suggest you start with the back box and then maybe go for the downpipe if you want more noise. The centre section doesn't make a lot of difference to the sound compared to a magnex with resonator for example.

This is what I did but went through 3 different back boxes and two downpipes to get the right sound and even added sound proofing!

I have a Full Hayward & Scott Deact on my Classic MY00 and the sound is pure bliss

I still can't believe the comments the Zorst attracts and we are talking of owners of Vortex and Blitz to name a few.....I just love it

My exhaust is too damn loud, just a slight touch on the accelerator with slight load, and it barks.
H&S splitter downpipe, H&S/SS centre and rear, but main difference is OBX headers.

Barks and sounds like a motorbike!

Doesn't help it's a wagon!

H&S are very helpful and quality of stuff is great.

the www.scoobyworld.co.uk exhaust parts (except backboxes) are made by H&S. So you can see pictures and prices ect. They do a centre section with a resonator in. I would seriously take a look at that for a wagon if you are concerend about the noise.

I have H&S parts on my car, my only complaint was there was weld splats on the centre section and I had to work the hole where the lambda sensor goes in to clean the weld out of the thread.

They would of replaced it but as I had the car up on the ramp with the old exhaust off, it wasnt exactly convenient.

cheers

The Power Engineering turbo back system is also well made and has the advantage of a single free flow sports cat which is good for 400 BHP as far as flow is concerned. The good bit is that it will breeze through the emissions check without any significant power loss. No need for swapping exhausts to get through the MOT.

I've just fitted an H&S backbox to my MY97 WRX Wagon - did a journey on Saturday with the boot full of soft furnishings (don't ask) and thought "this is quieter than standard!".

Did the return journey on Sunday with an empty boot and thought "is there any wadding in the silencer?!"

The empty Wagon cabin does seem to resonate quite a bit - I would start off with a back box as suggested and see how you get on with the noise before adding extra components...

JFB - when you said the centre didn't make much difference to sound, did you mean compared to standard or to the Magnex? This is my planned next buy, but only if its not going to make the 'zorst significantly louder...

Couldn't reccommend them highly enough!!

I meant compared to standard. I had a Scoobysport downpipe and magnex oval back box with magnex resonated centre section and it was just too much. I soundproofed the boot with road kill which weighed a ton and had two layers of carpet! I then exhanged the back box for a cutomise long life Stainlesss Steel jobbie and that helped reduce the decibles. This was ideal as I still had a straight through to allow those flames a safe and timely exit!!

LOL

Horses for courses but I would say a resonated centre section is a must but you will not notice much difference either way until you change the downpipe.

Hope this helps.

Johnny......I am now interested as the one i was planning to buy has fallen through. I didnt realise it was a jap style tailpipe, which im not into.

My preferred choice would probably be 3.5" tailpipe. Im in the west of scotland so picking it up shouldnt be a problem. Any chance you could send me some pics and price info. My email address is in my profile.

Better yet Ill be at Knockhill tomorrow night for the hot marques night. Dont suppose your going ? Ill PM my mobile no in case you cant get me online.

Anybody else selling a similar system ?
